appeared in NorthJersey.com on September 9, 2011.

"Thomas "Coach" Simos, 86, of Hawthorne formerly of Ridgewood, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday September 7, 2011. Born in Ridgewood, Thomas was a 1943 graduate of Ridgewood High School and Springfield College class of 1951. He also earned his Masters Degree from Springfield College in 1953. Prior to his retirement he was a Physical Education Teacher and Soccer Coach for the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School.

Mr. Simos was a member of the Bergen County Soccer Officials Assoc., the Bergen County Soccer Hall of Fame, the Bergen County Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the Ridgewood High School Hall of Fame in 2004.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he fought in both Guam and French Morocco, attaining the rank of Radioman 3rd class. For his service Mr. Simos received the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle East Medal.

He is survived by his beloved wife Ruth nee Smith, three daughters, Anita Sands, Janet Di Leo, Barbara Marshall, a son Wayne Simos and 8 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild. Also surviving are his siblings James, Helen, Patricia, Christine, and Pauline all of CA.

Friends may call on Sunday September11th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the C. C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home 306 East Ridgewood Ave. Ridgewood, NJ 07450. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association 400 Morris Ave. Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07843-1365 would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the C. C. Van Emburg Funeral Home, Ridgewood. www.vanemburgh.com."
